Moren Lévesque, Schulich’s first Certified General Accountants of Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship
Professor Moren Lévesque has been appointed as the first Certified General Accountants of Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship at the Schulich School of Business, effective July 1, 2012.
The endowed academic chair was made possible by a $2 million gift from the Certified General Accountants of Ontario (CGA Ontario) to the Schulich School of Business at York University last year. As Chair, Lévesque will focus on global competitiveness for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which form the backbone of the Canadian economy.
“Moren’s research as the CGA Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship will play an important role in assisting SMEs to become more competitive outside their domestic markets,” said Dezsö J. Horváth. “This is exactly the sort of research work that Canada needs to help turn our small- and medium-sized enterprises into global competitors.”
“I am very excited by this opportunity to further develop my research into entrepreneurial decision making in the international arena,” said Lévesque, who is currently using mathematical models to gauge the impact of funding decisions on the emergence and growth of new enterprises.
“Canada needs more high-calibre research that enhances SMEs’ export know-how and foreign investment competence, and to inform public policy,” said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO, CGA Ontario. “This research will help to create conditions necessary for Canadian SMEs to become more broadly engaged in global commerce.”
CGA Ontario’s membership are accounting and finance professionals whose clients include Ontario small and medium-sized businesses in Ontario, he said.
Lévesque, a professor of Operations Management and Information Systems, has taught graduate level students in entrepreneurship at the Schulich School of Business since 2011.
